Linlithgow Thistle hosted their inaugural Sportsman’s Dinner on Saturday, 20th November 2010, in the heart of Linlithgow – Lodge Ancient Brazen, situated at The Cross.

The evening commenced with a game of Irish Lottery.  This game was quickly followed by a fantastic Scottish themed menu (in honour of the impending St Andrew’s Day), with Haggis, Neeps & Tatties, Lentil Soup, Steak Pie (or Chicken) & Veg, Oatcakes & Cheese, Tea & Coffee.  Alex Graham Caterers, Kilsyth, provided the excellent food, that was enjoyed by all.

The highly entertaining speakers for the evening were Rangers Legend, John Bomber Brown (who also did a marvellous job of MC-ing the night); Partick Thistle Legend, Chic Charnley; and ex-SPL Referee (and Rangers Legend!), Bobby Tait.  With Legends at the top table, there were also Legends within the body of the kirk, in the shape of a former Rangers star and ex-Olympian (and Linithgow residents), Colin Stein and Frank Clement.

The evening of entertainment was superbly concluded with the Prize Raffle Draw and Auction, with some amazing items on offer:

At the end of the evening, a signed & framed Linlithgow Thistle away strip was presented to John Hunter, MD of a main club sponsor, Hunters of Linlithgow.  John’s company displayed a very generous and selfless act by requesting that their chosen charity (Canine Partners Scotland) had their logo printed on the away strip, as opposed to their own business details, to raise awareness and support.  This kindness is appreciated by everyone at Linlithgow Thistle.

Through the success of the evening, the club made charitable donations to Poppy Scotland for the excellent work that they do in supporting our heroes and to The Prostate Cancer CharityScotlandfor the very worthwhile work that they undertake.  With the players supporting the Movember initiative and sporting Poppies on their strips during the fixture of 6th November, and with Service Veterans within the squad, these charities have strong support by everyone at the club.

Linlithgow Thistle would like to thank everyone involved with the success of the evening, including the Speakers; Colin Stein; the Committee and Brethren of Lodge Ancient Brazen; the caterers, Alex Graham; and the following Sponsors – Alan Steel Asset Management, Hunters of Linlithgow, Malcolm Allan, RJ Electrical Services, and The Black Bitch.  The club also expresses their sincerest gratitude to Tambo Design for the excellent framing service that they provided for the strips.
