Thistle advanced into the Fourth Round of the Centenary Cup following a battling win against a resolute Redhall Star.
It was against the run of play on 12 mins when Jamie McLean converted from close range, after good play by Heeps. Heeps was fouled by the keeper on the half hour, seeing the keeper dismissed. However, the Thistle striker failed to convert the kick.
Heeps made up for it with a fine strike early into the second half, before McCrae blasted beyond the substitute keeper on the hour.
Despite being 3-0 behind, the visitors never gave up and capitalised on the coasting mentality of Thistle. On snatching a fortuitous goal with 15 mins of the match remaining, it gave Star hope and motivation. Star salvaged another goal as the match entered the dying minutes but Thistle were eventually comfortable in their victory, with a couple of late chances going abegging.
It was a much more comfortable victory than the scoreline suggests but credit to Star for their attitude throughout the match.
