Thistle and Lochend produced an enthralling match for the spectators at Bathgate Sports Centre in this league contest. The Linlithgow side switched the game to astro turf to ensure both teams had the best prepration ahead of their respective East of Scotland Cup Quarter Final matches.
However, with a significant list of injuries, increased further in the first half with Scott Thomson requiring hospital treatment to his knee, it may not have been considered a blessing that the game was played. This did not invoke any such thoughts for the Linlithgow players that turned in a solid performance and were ultimately unlucky not to take all three points.
The Thistle led twice in his match with two goals. Having started the match in electric form, Heeps blasted in, albeit fortuitously from 25 yards on 15 mins, before Jamie McLean completed a fantastic team worked goal from 18 yards with a right foot finish on 30 mins.
Following Thomson’s injury, sustained just after Thistle’ second goal, Lochend regrouped and scored just prior to half time. This gave them the necessary boost.
Into the second half and the visitors continued to press. However it was Thistle who scored against the run of play with a smart McDade strike, turning the defender in the process.
A penalty and defensive error saw the scoreline equal, with a couple of chances for the Thistle prior to the final whistle.
The Thistle now face Steins Thistle in the East of Scotland Cup which will prove to be a stern test, particularly with the current injury list, but if the application mirrors that witnessed today, it will stand the underdogs in good stead.
