The Thistle let up on a glorious opportunity to progress to the semi-finals of the East of Scotland Cup, with a lacklustre performance against Central AFA’s Steins Thistle.
In Manager Jim Anderson’s absence, it was apparent from the kick off that the attitude and application of the visitor’s was distinctly poor, with little innovation and composure throughout the duration of this match.
It was on the half hour when the home side gained the advantage from a headed goal.
After the break, the Linlithgow side again failed to motivate themselves enough to create any clear chances. On the hour, Steins secured their victory from a rebound off the bar from a smart freekick. The victory became all the more inevitable when, shortly following the goal, Scott Greig received his second caution and dismissal for a poor foul.
Being reduced to ten men did have some effect and the Thistle carved out a couple of chances. However, the result was fair and it is back to the drawing board and domestic duties for Linlithgow Thistle.
The Club would like to thank Tayforth Travel for their kindness in providing the team’s transport to this game.
