Thistle exited the Miller Cup at the second round following a penalty shootout at Memorial Park.
Despite going a goal behind to a wonder strike on 15 mins, Thistle grew into this game and ended up dominating it for long periods against their Premier 1 opponents. It was a marked difference to Thistle’s attitude in their last game against Steins.
Into the second half, Thistle scored straight from the kick off, when Robert Taylor chipped the keeper and ran on to head the ball into the net and record his first goal for the club.
Heeps neatly directed the ball over the line following a well worked move on 64 mins.
As the game appeared to move into Thistle’s favour, with their greater fitness, the home side scrambled a fortuitous goal, with Bruce unsighted, on 82 mins.
Thistle tried to carve out the winner but 2-2 was how it remained until the 120th minute, when penalties were called.
Unfortunately the lottery of the penalty did not fall in Thistle’s favour and the home side advance in the Cup.
Most importantly however, Thistle regained the attitude and desire that had been missing in their last game and Manager Jim Anderson was ultimately pleased with the players’ application, movement and the return to fitness for a number of the team. This game also saw the return of Callum Nimmo, who made his full competitive return following a two year absence.
